A Carpet of Crickets in the West (registration required)
Victums Say Japan Ignores Sex Crimes Committed by Teachers (registration required)

::crickets::
The LA Times is reporting about a massive plague of crickets that are swarming the western states. It is getting so bad that transportation agency have to post advisory signs warning motorists to slow down while driving over crickets b/c "add a little water to cricket guts and it's like an oil slick."

"This month, Elko County, Nev., declared a state of emergency because of its crickets.

"'They got into the mall, one store was packed with them,' said John Ellison, an Elko County commissioner. 'Our buildings and roads were covered with them. One local police officer was at a fire and saw what he thought was water running toward him but it was, in fact, crickets.'

::teacher sex crimes::
From the story, classroom sex is common in Japan. When I say common, I mean other students make fun of the girl who reports it. "'When I was at a supermarket, I was surrounded by some senior students I had never spoken to before,' she said, according to the newspaper account. 'They shouted, "That's the sexually harassed one!" and laughed at me.'"

Cases include a 13-year old who reported her 51-year old teacher; a 8 year-old girl whose mom caught her masterbating and discovered later she learned how from her teacher fondling her.

Now you think politicians in this country realize they said too much... check this out.
"Speaking at a public symposium, a member of Parliament, Seiichi Ota, recently made light of reports of gang rapes at a Tokyo university. "Boys who commit group rape are in good shape," Mr. Ota said. "I think they are rather normal. Whoops, I shouldn't have said that." (The legislator's comments were carried in many Japanese newspapers.)"

Just sad...

search engine

Okay- the search engine is acting funny. Last time it did this, I just reparied the database and it worked fine except I lost some data (just comments but still). I would like to check out my coding to see if there is anything else I can do to fix that before repairing it again.

WatchBlog: 2004 Election News, Opinion and Commentary

Whoa- this is cool. It is three weblogs side-by-side with Demo, Third Party and Repub views. I don't know where to even begin on this. Sensory overload seriously. What is cool though, the backend for the site is the same webapp I installed on my server... see what I mean about control?

With the way national media is now, I like the idea of more sites/media outlets providing multiple points of view and allowing the viewer to decide. CNN was called in years past the "Clinton News Network"; MSNBC decided that it was "America's News Network" and Fox- well, what can't you say about Fox news? Whenever I wonder why the American people (as a whole) are stupid at times, I have to look no further than channels 27, 55 and 56 on my television.

www.TexasSports.com: NCAA Milestone

I don't feel like a long post tonight. UT was just eliminated from CWS. It was a good close game though- it wasn't a blowout like many games have been recently.

cheesebikini?: One Conference, Two Worlds

I found this weblog entry today; I really can't wait for the time where this really is common place. The technology enables us to be always on the information superhighway but too often, we are unable to access it simply because everyone is behind the times.

True, people will be able to play games and whatnot but imagine being able to schedule a study group instantly in the middle of the lecture by sending out a meeting request. Or being able to send a quick msg to a classmate asking what was the answer the prof just gave. The abilities are endless.

UT is slowly adding wireless internet across campus to perhaps one day become much more like this conference. I could only hope it would be tomorrow.

It ain't braggin', just fact.

This is a little story from the Austin American-Statesman mentioning that every one of UT's NCAA teams made it to the post season this year. Three words: We don't play.

omg this is pissing me off

Okay, I cleaned the server completely, added back the executables, ran them cleanly and this still doesn't work. I'm trying to get people from the support forum to tell me what is wrong b/c simply, I'm lost. The problem seems to start before I have a chance to do anything either way. Argh I say. Argh.

Perhaps I'll try to find a different app to use.

coming right along

* Well, I added everything that was listed at the Random Musings Archives under the static site. I still need to add the musings that are still listed on the homepage.

* I'm going to do a clean install soon too; first export all the data, wipe everything related to MT out and start over. I hope that going through it once will keep me from messing it up in the second time around. If that doesn't work, I'm not sure what I'm going to so do to fix those bugs. I suppose I'll be able to figure it out. In either case, at least the bugs are internal and none of y'all (besides Matt who has the other beta weblog) can tell.

not perfect

I've been working more on fixing the bugs with this publishing webapp. So far, no go. :-( I tried to dump the db and do a clean-install again but it didn't work. I'm going to look at the db data and look at the excutables again to see if something is wrong there. Well, I take that back. I didn't do a clean install. I erased the db and started fresh from there. I'll start from scratch soon and reload everything. I might lose a couple of posts, like this one, but if it fixes the bugs I'm having with it, it would be worth it. To explain further, whenever I submit a post, the handler doesn't handle it right and it won't rebuild it into the site. I have to go back and edit the post for it to publish. I'll figure it out.

soc 302

Right now, I should be doing some reading for my soc class I'm taking via the internet at Midwestern State. I've been working on this site all day getting this weblog webapp to work but finally it is, but alas, the reading still awaits.

So far, I can't wait for this summer term to be over. The work is such a waste of time- I sit in my political science class for two hours to day to hear information that Sherry taught us back in our sophomore year!

Anyhow, I'll keep this short- I am going to go and do a little work now :-/

the first message

Well, this is the first message. After fighting with this thing for a little while, I finally figured out the small things to get it to work. I think this will be a great addition to the site.

weekend!

| No Comments | No TrackBacks

The weekend is finally here! MSU is following a four-day work week so three-day weekends every weekend are my game. The downside: two-hour classes. So far, all we've done in my art class is watch videos. I suppose that's acceptable. I really don't have too much to talk about really. Currently, everything is on auto-pilot. I haven't talked to a person or two here (WF) in awhile that I would like to. Oh well, anyhow, I just felt the urge to post to the world that I am out for the weekend. Nothing like what-should-have-been-high-school government classes to bore you to tears.

xhtml transformation

| No Comments | No TrackBacks

This is just a quick little musings to say that I'm going to convert the site to XHTML over the next few weeks. As well, I'm going to drop my use of FrontPage and go back to real web creation. So far, the resume has been converted over. I had forgotten how much control of my style I had to give up to use FrontPage themes; I think what I have done so far looks good while regaining my control of the design. One thing I will have to get used to is the phased-out use of the tag. Style Sheets here I come...

Oh yeah, I added a form so you can text message me from the site. Right now, it's on the resume subweb as a popup. As I convert the site over, I'll add it to a main page.
